About Us

The California Insurance Professionals (CAIP) is a non-profit organization that started over 30 years ago and is directed by volunteer board members from the California insurance community. CAIP provides social and educational venues for the insurance industry to meet, network, and have a good time with all proceeds going to a charitable cause. CAIP’s charity of choice is FosterAll (https://www.fosterall.org/).

Since CAIP’s inception, CAIP has donated over $200,000 to charities including FosterAll., Habitat for Humanity, Second Careers, Chrysalis, and School on Wheels. And keeping up with one of the longest-standing traditions, CAIP has donated countless amounts of toys to less fortunate children during the holiday season.

In the early 1980’s, the Los Angeles insurance industry was largely located in the mid-Wilshire area. It was a time when clients were walking distance away, everyone had a story about where they were during the riots, and reinsurance was cool! The industry then, as it is now, is populated by people who work hard, have fun, and enjoy life along the way. To that end, an unofficial holiday party was organized by a small group of insurance professionals known as the L.A. Underwriters in hopes of ending the year in high spirits. As years went on the party began growing in popularity and becoming one of the industry’s “must attend” events.

But the mid-Wilshire scene soon came to an end. The 1990’s saw offices lured away to addresses afar and the market became fragmented – geographically speaking. The L.A. Underwriters suffered as attendees were always just a short walk away. Also, members began balking at the thought of having to commute to monthly meetings. Attendance began to decline and L.A. Underwriters found themselves in a predicament.

As luck would have it, just as the L.A. Underwriters were looking for solutions to their geographic problems. The unofficial band of holiday revelers found themselves looking for ways to formalize their charitable donations. The holiday party had become so popular that the party was making money with proceeds going to local charities. The outcome was L.A. Underwriters stayed intact with the added benefit of a popular social and networking outlet. When these two groups merged they formed CAIP with the following mission in mind:

Our mission is to promote and facilitate opportunities for professional education and social activities for the purpose of benefiting charities in Southern California. To accomplish this mission the CAIP Board of Directors, with the support of its members, use annual holiday events, golf events, educational seminars, and networking happy hours.

From the very first CAIP-sponsored holiday party at the Italian Fisherman in Glendale, CAIP has provided a platform for all insurance professionals from all product lines to meet, network, and have a good time for a charitable cause.
